Interlocking stone is one of the most popular and versatile hardscaping choices for homeowners across Ontario — and it’s easy to see why. Whether you’re replacing a crumbling driveway, building a backyard patio, or adding a front walkway, interlock delivers a clean, finished look that holds up beautifully through years of Canadian winters.
At The Setting Stone Company, we’ve been installing interlock driveways, patios, and walkways across Clarington and the Durham Region for over 15 years. We work with a wide range of colours, shapes, and laying patterns to create surfaces that complement your home and suit your lifestyle. Every project starts with a properly engineered base — because that’s what determines how long your interlock lasts.
Every interlock project we build is designed to perform as well as it looks — season after season, year after year.
We offer a wide selection of interlock styles and patterns, so your finished surface is as individual as your home.

An interlock driveway is a long-term investment that dramatically improves your home's curb appeal. We design and install driveways that handle vehicle loads, resist cracking, and stay looking sharp for decades — something poured concrete simply can't match.
Transform your backyard into a true outdoor living space. We design interlock patios that work with your yard's layout, grade, and existing landscaping to create a functional and beautiful entertaining area.
A well-built interlock walkway creates a welcoming path from the street to your front door, or connects different areas of your outdoor space. We design and install walkways that are safe, durable, and visually cohesive.
Sunken, shifted, or cracked interlock is one of the most common issues we see in Ontario — and in most cases, it doesn't require full replacement. We lift, rebase, and relay the affected area to restore a level, stable surface.
Interlock is only as good as the base underneath it. Without proper excavation depth, compaction, and drainage planning, even the best-looking interlock will shift, sink, and separate within a few seasons. Our team has spent over 15 years mastering the groundwork that makes interlock last in Ontario’s demanding climate — and it shows in every project we complete across Clarington and Durham Region.

We excavate to the proper depth, install a compacted granular base, and use geotextile fabric to prevent settling and weed intrusion — the foundation that separates interlock that lasts from interlock that doesn't.
We work with a broad range of interlock products in various colours, textures, and profiles, allowing you to achieve the exact look you want while using materials proven to perform in Ontario winters.
Every surface we install is graded to move water away from your home's foundation and prevent standing water — an essential consideration in Ontario's climate and a detail many contractors overlook.
We treat your property with care throughout the entire project. Your lawn, gardens, and surrounding areas are protected, and we do a full site cleanup so the only thing left behind is the finished work.

For most residential applications in Ontario, we excavate 8 to 12 inches and install a compacted granular base before laying the bedding sand and interlock. Driveways require deeper excavation than patios or walkways due to vehicle load. Proper base depth is the single most important factor in how long your interlock lasts.
Most residential interlock projects take 2 to 5 days, depending on the size of the area, complexity of the pattern, and any grading or drainage work required. We'll provide a clear timeline estimate before work begins.
Interlock actually handles freeze-thaw cycles better than poured concrete. Because the stones are individual units with joints between them, they can flex slightly as the ground moves — unlike a solid concrete slab, which is prone to cracking. Properly installed interlock with the right base will hold up through many Ontario winters.
Regular maintenance is minimal — occasional sweeping, rinsing, and reapplication of polymeric sand to the joints every few years as needed. We recommend sealing your interlock every 2 to 3 years to protect the colour and lock in the jointing sand. We'll walk you through everything at project completion.
We do our best to source interlock that closely matches your existing material, though exact colour matches aren't always possible due to weathering and product availability. We'll show you the options and let you decide before any work begins.
