For driveway paving in Bowmanville, The Setting Stone Company works in interlock, asphalt or concrete, with widening, tear-outs and repairs for homes in Northglen, Waverly, Apple Blossom and the streets between.
Width is the number to know first, from a Victory House on Veterans Avenue to a new build in Brookhill. Clarington caps driveways on single-detached and semi-detached homes at 4.5 to 6 metres, depending on lot size and garage width, unless Zoning By-law 84-63 restricts it further. So before we talk pavers, we measure your lot and garage and tell you where your driveway can land.

Zoning By-law 84-63 requires driveways and parking areas to stay on a stable, dust-controlled surface that gives access in all weather. A new driveway meets that only if the base does its job. We excavate, lay geotextile fabric and compact a granular base sized to your soil, because CMHA’s 6 in. (150 mm) driveway minimum assumes well-drained ground. Then we grade water away from the foundation and keep the grading from harming tree roots, as Clarington requires.

Apply in spring or summer. Clarington says curb cuts are done by a third-party contractor with no firm timeline, and they may not be inspected or completed from October 1 to March 31. A cut or widening must be visibly marked or staked before the municipal inspection, and Clarington treats work without a permit as illegal and sends it to its Municipal Law Enforcement Office. New lots in Brookhill, where about 100 hectares south of the Longworth Avenue extension is built or approved, follow the same rules.
Read the private entrance permit page and confirm the current rules with Clarington’s office at 40 Temperance Street before work starts. We are close by on Wharf Street, and we help with the process.
An entrance must sit at least 2 metres from a tree trunk, so a tree can decide where a wider entrance goes.
An entrance must also clear a hydrant or hydro transformer by 3 metres, and a utility or traffic sign by 1 metre.
To keep on-street parking, Clarington wants driveways at least 7 metres apart. That can limit a second entrance or a shifted one.
That is the minimum from the nearest face of the house to the property line, and we check it before you plan.
Every job starts at your property, since width, taper and slope all have to be measured. Here is the order we follow.
Call (905) 922-6684 or write to us. You get a reply within 1 business day, and the visit costs nothing.
We measure the lot, garage and boulevard, and check clearances for trees, hydrants and signs before talking about materials.
You get a clear, itemized quote with no obligation, and we go over what the private entrance permit involves.
Our crew protects the property, digs out, builds the base and paves. We leave the site clean and do a final walkthrough with you.

Clarington's maximum for single-detached and semi-detached homes in Bowmanville is 4.5 to 6 metres, depending on lot size and garage width, measured bottom of taper to bottom of taper, and Zoning By-law 84-63 can restrict that further. Northglen, Waverly and Apple Blossom are mostly low density in the Official Plan, so that is usually the range to check there. Townhomes get 3 to 4 metres.
Yes. Clarington requires a private entrance permit to cut a curb, widen a driveway, or install or replace a culvert. Homes on local roads in Bowmanville apply through Clarington, while an entrance off a Regional road goes through the Region of Durham. Near Bowmanville Creek or Soper Creek, fill or grade changes may also need a permit from Central Lake Ontario Conservation. The Port Darlington plan says shoreline or creek projects must get approvals.
Plan it in winter and build it after the thaw. CMHA, the paver association, says frozen base material should not be installed and base should not go over frozen soil, and Environment Canada's 1981 to 2010 normals for Bowmanville Mostert show 31.0 cm of snow in January. A winter consultation is a good way to get ready, since our schedule fills in spring and summer.
That depends on your driveway, and we won't guess over the phone. Size, excavation and old material to remove all change the number, so an older home near Port Darlington and a new build in Brookhill can price very differently. We install all three, and our interlock page explains the paver option. After a free visit, we can quote them side by side, itemized.
Yes. Corner-lot driveways must follow the visibility triangle rule in Zoning By-law 84-63, Section 3.28. For a driveway, the triangle is measured 3 metres back along the driveway and street line. If your driveway is within 15 metres of an intersection, Clarington also says not to park on its boulevard portion. We check all of this on site, from Memorial to Darlington Green.
