If your driveway in Whitby needs new paving, an extension or a repair, The Setting Stone Company does the work in interlock, asphalt or concrete, from Port Whitby to West Whitby and Brooklin.
One line matters more than any other on a Whitby driveway: where your lot ends and the Town’s boulevard begins. The Town owns the boulevard at the end of a driveway, and Clean Community By-law 8271-26 says no one may add hard or solid materials such as concrete, interlock or asphalt to it. We talk through that line at the site visit, before anyone picks a paver.

Whitby’s Property Standards By-law 6874-14 says owners must maintain the grade and drains on driveways to prevent excessive ponding, so a low spot is more than an annoyance. Our order is excavation, geotextile fabric, a granular base compacted in place, then a grade that carries water away from the foundation. On clay and other slow-draining soil, the Concrete Masonry and Hardscapes Association (CMHA) recommends perforated drain pipe under vehicle traffic, so we check the ground during the dig before deciding.

Homes built from 1981 to 2005 make up more than half of the town’s housing, so many original driveways may be due for a look. For interlock, see our local paver work.

Several by-laws meet at the end of your driveway. A widening that extends onto the boulevard needs a curb-cut permit, and the application needs a sketch with proposed dimensions, sent to rop@whitby.ca or 333 McKinney Dr. An independent Town contractor does the curb cutting itself. Traffic By-law 8059-24 also bars parking on or over any boulevard, and driveway reconstruction is exempt from a Site Alteration Permit under By-law 7425-18.
See the Town’s driveway widening page and confirm the current rules before work starts. We can help with the process once you have your quote.
The Town's independent contractor does the cutting, charged at actual cost under Fees By-law 7220-17, so budget for it on its own.
By-law 8271-26 s. 5.1 rules out fences, posts, walls and rock there. We keep edging and borders on your side of the line.
The Town requires one before work starts in the public road allowance, so we plan the job with that step in mind.
Hard materials are barred on the boulevard, yet widenings can get permits, so ask the Town before planning any apron. We raise it at the visit.
Phone estimates do not work for driveways. We need to see the width, slope, drainage and curb before we can give you a real number.
Send a message or call. You hear from us within 1 business day, and the on-site consultation is free.
We measure the driveway, check slope and drainage, and sketch the widening with you if a curb-cut application is needed.
You see the excavation, base and paving itemized, and we point out which Town charges sit outside our quote.
Our own crew protects the property, does the work, cleans up, and goes over the finished driveway with you.

You do if the widening extends onto the boulevard: that takes a curb-cut permit, with a sketch of the proposed dimensions. Any widening in Whitby must also follow the Zoning By-law and the Road Occupancy and Municipal Access By-law. Limits depend on your lot, and we go through them with you at the site visit.
Clean Community By-law 8271-26, s. 8.9 says no one may add hard or solid materials such as concrete, interlock or asphalt to the boulevard. The Town also issues curb-cut permits for widenings that extend onto the boulevard, so ask the Town how the two apply to your driveway apron before planning it. We raise that with you at the visit.
An independent Town contractor does the curb cutting on any Town road with curb and gutter. The charge is actual cost, with a minimum for the first 2.0 metres and a cost for each additional metre, under Fees By-law 7220-17. Plan for that charge separately from your paving quote.
Base depth depends on the soil. CMHA's minimum for residential driveways on well-drained soil is 6 in. (150 mm), and it says wet or weak soils in colder climates need thicker bases. Unilock's technical guide gives 10 to 14 in. as typical for driveways, and says clay needs deeper digging. The Town's Corbett Creek study describes clayey silt till commonly showing at the surface, so we check your ground first.
Expect the price to follow the size, material, base work, access and what must be removed, and any Town curb-cut or Road Occupancy Permit charge comes on top. We don't estimate by phone, because every property is different. The site visit is free, and you get a clear, itemized quote, so you can compare interlock, asphalt and concrete.
