Pickering homeowners can call The Setting Stone Company for snow removal on driveways, walkways and front steps, from Fairport Beach and Bay Ridges up to Seaton.
One line from the City deserves a second read. The City owns the boulevard and repairs plow damage there with asphalt, and it will not restore a driveway boulevard finished in interlocking brick or patterned concrete if winter control operations damage it. We build interlock driveways, so we know how to clear them without chewing up the surface.

Usually, but check the paver first. The Concrete Masonry and Hardscapes Association (CMHA) says in its maintenance note to apply sand first for traction, then de-icer as needed, and to clear the excess in spring so it does not wear the surface. Permacon, a paver maker, allows only fine sand. Permeable pavers are the exception: CMHA does not recommend sand on them, and Permacon says never. In January 2026 the City reported a province-wide road salt shortage and said residents might see more sand. Its infill guidelines also suggest permeable pavers. So we ask what you have first.

You can’t put snow, ice or slush on a City street, block the view of or access to a fire hydrant, or clear a sidewalk in a way that may damage it or the curb. That is how the City’s ice and snow clearing page sums up By-law 6650/06, which applies to every owner of a building or vacant land, occupied or not. Residents get 24 hours after a snowfall to clear bordering sidewalks. If not, the City can do it at your expense, plus a 25% administration fee. A 2023 report priced contract windrow clearing at $7.4 million a year. The City has not adopted it, so windrows stay with you. Confirm current rules with the City. We help with this at the quote.
In established areas like Bay Ridges, original garages typically fit one vehicle, and street parking is barred 2 a.m. to 5 a.m., December 1 to March 31.
The City says Seaton's narrow mews and laneways need specialized vehicles to clear snow, so tell us if your driveway is off a mews.
City service times run 13 or 24 hours by storm size in the south urban area, 20 or 30 in the north rural area.
Plastic snow canopies and driveway tents need no building permit if installed on or after October 15 and removed by April 15, though zoning may still apply.
Tell us what you have. We look before we quote, because no two lots, aprons or front steps are the same.
Tell us which part of Pickering you are in and what needs clearing. Winter visits are welcome.
We note what your apron is finished with, where the hydrant and catch basin are, and which way the plow travels past you.
Per-visit or seasonal? Talk to us about what suits your property. It goes in a clear, itemized quote with no ballpark guesses.
Permacon's guide says to verify the edging once things thaw and reset any shifted pavers. If winter moved yours, that is work we do.

No. The City's snow safety tips say it will not restore driveway boulevards finished with interlocking brick, patterned concrete or concrete or wood curbs if winter control operations damage them. The City repairs other plow damage there with asphalt. Hard surfaces on a boulevard also need prior City approval, under Boulevard Maintenance By-law 6831/08, so check before you build one.
On the downstream, right-hand side, if you can. The City says that helps reduce the windrow left the next time the plow comes by. Windrow snow goes onto your boulevard, not back on the road, and By-law 6650/06 allows fines for putting snow on the road or sidewalk. Keep the nearest catch basin clear too, to help prevent local flooding.
The City's Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Snow Clearing Program runs November 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027 and holds 750 households. Registration ran September 11 to October 16, 2026, with later applications taken only if there is room, so don't count on a spot. Fees run from $128.82 to $240.69 with HST, by income. If it does not work out, talk to us.
Not according to the paver industry. CMHA rates rock salt least damaging to concrete materials, and pavers made to CSA A231.2 are freeze-thaw tested in a 3% saline solution. CMHA also says to clear the excess promptly and not to pile salty snow on pavers. It allows careful use of calcium chloride, but Permacon prohibits it, so check your maker's rule. Our salt guide has more.
